Hi Emily! I love how you take complete control of the classroom and seem so confident at the front of the room. I thought that it was a great idea to have us quickly research some key information about the topic (technological advancement) that we chose from the hat. I find from personal experience that we learn more when we are forced to look up information on our own and then explain our findings to others, so nice job with this exploration component. I do think that this might work a little bit better in smaller groups, especially with middle or high school students. That way, the students would be responsible for researching and working collaboratively in groups, thus building on multiple skills at one time. Finally, reading excerpts from Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne was an important inclusion. This demonstrated the connection between history and literature, and the usage of this text reiterated the points that we were talking about throughout the entire lesson. I think that this lesson was both creative and effective, and as teachers, it is our goal to create meaningful, effective lessons for our students. Great job, Emily!
Hey Emily! Great job on your micro teaching 2!! I really liked this activity! I think that in a medium class this would work very well. I have one question about the content and mechanics of your lesson.. You provided us 5 inventions and we were to pair up as the definition and the word. How would you plan for a class size that was larger than 10 students? Would you have more inventions or just provide like double sets? This is just something to think about for the next time you may use this lesson! Another aspect of your lesson I wanted to bring up, is when you have a discussion with students, it is okay to pause and wait for students to answer. At times I felt like you were having a conversation with yourself instead of allowing students to provide input into the conversation. I think that this is a little tweak that will make you that much stronger as a future educator! Great job! -Emily
